Advaita Ashrama with its main centre at Mayavati in the Himalayas (Dist. Champawat, Uttarakhand) was started by Swami Vivekananda in 1899. It is one of the most important publication centres of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, and is entrusted with the propagation of India's spiritual and cultural heritage all over the world specially the original literature of Swami Vivekananda that has been inspiring people with man-making and strength-giving religion over a hundred years. We have also published translations of the Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita and other important scriptures, which have been highly praised by scholars and devotees. In order to make these books available to a greater number of people, we are offering them at a highly subsidized price. We need hardly point out the importance of spreading the message of Swami Vivekananda among the people at a time when the world is facing challenges from the divisive and disintegrating forces. In fact, his message is becoming more relevant today than what it was before.

Besides this, we are carrying out the following activities:

Maintaining a library-cum-Reading Room for the benefit of the general public.

An Auditorium for holding scriptural classes and cultural programmes.
Distributing doles, clothes, medicine and giving pecuniary help to poor people.
Running a Charitable Hospital at Mayavati (Himalayas) without charging anything from the patients.

Publication of a monthly magazine Prabuddha Bharata (Awakened India) started by Swami Vivekananda, now in its 111th year.

For a long time we have been suffering from an acute shortage of space. To tide over the situation we have purchased a plot of land just behind our Ashrama. We are going to construct a big building which will be used for the following purposes:

Publication Department with modern storage facilities.

Reading Room for college students where all text books will be made available to them. Due to space problem in their houses, here they will get an ambience to read four hours in the morning and four hours in the evening.
Archives where all our old publications right from the inception and old valuable photographs of our Holy Trio and the Direct Disciples will be preserved.
Meditation Hall for the general public.
Monks' Quarters.

The total cost of the building is expected to be Rs. 4 Crore (US $1,000,000). We appeal to all to contribute generously for the above project. All donations are to be sent by A/c. payee cheque / drafts in favour of Advaita Ashrama. These donations qualify for exemption u/s 80-G of the Income Tax act. In America, people wishing to get tax breaks can send their donations to us through Ramakrishna Foundation, 1918 Granville Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90025. They have the tax exempt ID No. and will be glad to forward your donations to us. Please contact Mr. Deviprasad Nayak through email dnayak@ucla.edu.

If the Ramakrishna Math & Mission of which Advaita Ashrama is a branch, has done substantial service in different fields during the last 100 years, it is due to the munificent help we have received from benevolent friends like you.

We hope you will consider our request favourably and help us serve humanity more and more in a true spirit of worship.

Yours in the Lord
