Introduction

Swami Vivekananda needs no introduction, for his is a household name in India. Swamiji was one of the greatest spiritual leaders of the modern world, a great lover of humanity whose unconditional love extended to all people without any distinctions of caste, class, creed, race, region or religion. Swami Vivekananda is also remembered as a great patriot, the first cultural ambassador of India to the West, who raised the prestige of India in the eyes of Western people and changed their views about India with the compelling force to truth.

  • Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh formally inaugurated the projects on 12 January at 4 pm at the Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.


    Swami Prabhananda, General Secretary, Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, announced in a press conference that with a view to commemorating the 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission have chalked out various programmes beginning from 2010 itself. The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, formally inaugurated the nationwide celebration on 12 January 2011 (The National Youth Day), at 4 p.m. at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.

  • Celebration at Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House, Kolkata

     

     

    As a part of the celebrations of Swami Vivekananda’s 150th Birth Anniversary a meeting will be held at Ramakrishna Mancha at the Ramakrishna Mission Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House and Cultural Centre, Kolkata on Saturday, 1 September 2012 at 7.00 pm.

  • “YUVA” (Youth and Vivekananda) to broadcast Swamiji’s life and message

     

    The programmes connected with celebrating Swamiji’s 150th birth anniversary will be in the form of panel discussions amongst some Swamis of the Ramakrishna Order and prominent Indian citizens; success-stories of those who were inspired by Swamiji; debates; parents-wards interaction; artistes’ tributes to Swamiji, etc.

    The YUVA series will be aired on television every Sunday starting from 31 July 2011 at 06.30 pm on CNN-IBN (English) and 04.30 pm on IBN7 (Hindi). Alternatively you can also watch it live on the website.

  • State-level Seminar on RELIGIOUS HARMONY at Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Asansol


    To commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Asansol, West Bengal is going to organize a state-level seminar on Religious Harmony on 26th and 27th February 2011. Ex- Army Chief , General Shankar Roy Chowdhury, will inaugurate the seminar. Revered General Secretary Maharaj will give the keynote address. Revered Suhitanandaji Maharaj will be present at the Valedictory Session which will be devoted to a panel discussion on the role of religion in nation-building. Among the twenty –five speakers who will speak at various sessions, there will be representatives of five major religions, scholars of national and international repute, General Secretary of Sarada Math, journalists and corporate people. Speeches /discussions will be in English, Bengali and Hindi.
